The Archdiocese of Los Angeles has announced the funeral services for Auxiliary Bishop David G. O’Connell for the San Gabriel Pastoral Region of the Archdiocese.
Following is the schedule from March 1st thru March 3rd:
San Gabriel Pastoral Region Memorial Mass on Wednesday, March 1st at St. John Vianney Catholic Church (1345 Turnbull Canyon Road, Hacienda Heights) at 7:00 p.m., and will be livestreamed on Bishop David G. Connell | LA Catholics
Public Viewing on Thursday, March 2nd at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels (555 West Temple Street, Los Angeles) from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., followed by a Vigil Mass at 7:00 p.m., and will be livestreamed on Bishop David G. Connell | LA Catholics and on the OLA Cathedral YouTube Channel
Funeral Mass on March 3rd at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels (555 West Temple Street, Los Angeles) at 11:00 a.m., and will be livestreamed on Bishop David G. Connell | LA Catholics and on the OLA Cathedral YouTube Channel

STATEMENT FROM ARCHBISHOP JOSÉ H. GOMEZ ON THE DEATH OF AUXILIARY BISHOP DAVID O’CONNELL

I am very sad this afternoon to report that our beloved Auxiliary Bishop David O’Connell has passed away unexpectedly. It is a shock and I have no words to express my sadness.
As a priest and later a bishop here in Los Angeles for more than forty-five years, Bishop Dave was a man of deep prayer who had a great love for Our Blessed Mother. He was a peacemaker with a heart for the poor and the immigrant, and a passion for building a community where the sanctity and dignity of every human life was honored and protected.
He was also a good friend, and I will miss him greatly. I know we all will. Please join me in praying for Bishop Dave and for his family in Ireland. May Our Lady of Guadalupe wrap him in the mantle of her love, and may the angels lead him into paradise, and may he rest in peace.
